Dry eye disease is one of the most difficult conditions to treat, as
patients do not always show improvement of symptoms with similar treatment
Artificial tears only treat a very small subset of dry eye disease
called aqueous deficiency.
In the much more commonly diagnosed inflammatory
dry eye disease we treat based on subjective symptoms as well as the
severity of the disease.
Over-the-counter drops, gels, and heat masks are
helpful. It is imperative to go further by using any or all of the
following: Omega 3 supplements, ointment, oral (pill) medication, and
prescription drops such as Restasis.
